Sound familiar?
"This is my first baby and it's all new to me."
"I'm still recovering from my last birth experience. Surely it doesn't have to be that traumatic again."
"I want a drug-free birth — maybe even a home birth — but everybody's telling me I'm crazy."
"When I even think about hospitals, I feel so anxious."
"I'm just not going to be able to get the support I need from the baby's father."
Hello there, mama. Wait, you’re not at ease with your title just yet? I don’t blame you. You probably don’t feel quite ready to take on all that lies ahead. It’s intimidating, even for someone like you. You have had plenty of other achievements in your life (perhaps that even includes birthing other babies), but this new challenge is a thing all of its own.
Sometimes it feels as if you’re bearing it all by yourself. You may have some support from well-intentioned others, but if they don’t quite get what you’re after, how can you expect them to meet your needs? You’ve been trawling the internet and watching endless YouTube videos in an attempt to feel Knowledgeable And Prepared, but there’s still an element missing. At some point, you figure, you’re just going to have to do this, with or without the confidence and peace of mind you seek.
Yes, friend, you will have to do it. But you won’t have to do it alone. I can walk alongside you to help you find what is lacking. Through our work together, your self-doubt and fear can melt quietly into trust and bravery. With the quality information I will help you access, you can come to decisions that are your own, that you can be at peace with. And I won’t need to leave you when your time comes. If you hire me as your doula, I can help you to put that confidence and those decisions into practice, so that the birth that ensues will be a source of strength and joy to you in the future.
You are still journeying into the unknown, but now you have the provisions to sustain you, the companions
to go with you and a walking staff to lean on as you navigate whatever the path brings. You can start to see
yourself as an intrepid explorer rather than just a lonely wanderer. You can go on your way with great courage.
If you’ve just let out a sigh of relief, that’s a great sign you’re in the right place.

The people I work best with:
- enjoy taking responsibility for their own decisions
- desire to use their pregnancy as an opportunity for personal growth and are open to deep thinking and reflection
- are often looking for strength to face a personal challenge, such as: an absent partner, a previous traumatic childbirth, a first baby, “advanced maternal age”, family/friends who misunderstand or mock their desire for a natural birth, or anxiety about medical procedures
- want a source of quality information: They are relieved to find a childbirth educator with world-class qualifications based on years of study, rather than a quick weekend workshop
- value integrity in themselves and others and would rather not hire a birth worker with a conflict of interests, e.g. one who also resells health products
- have a bit of an independent streak. Me too: I'm not tied to a hospital or limited to any method, so I am free to offer the best of many schools of thought
- dare to believe that they can do this, even if there are also doubts. They want help and inspiration from someone who has achieved her own goals, too
If you see yourself in this description, please drop me a line to let me know you're here!
